Basic math class for community women in Kavresthali

In Nepal, most community women are deprived of basic education and they have less opportunity to empower their social and economic environment. In fact, men occupy most of the jobs. Most women have unskilled jobs as vendors in small shops, sell fruits and vegetables in markets or are farmers. For others, they are housewives and are unemployed.
This is why VIN contributes to educate women on their right to develop their personal and professional skill.
Under the Women’s Empowerment Program, VIN has contributed to develop some basic skills of mathematics to the women for their personal progress.
The first of the community is made up of two women who have created a business of handmade jewelry. These women are also members of the entrepreneurship program, developed by VIN. They want to improve their mathematics knowledge in order to increase their business.
The second community is made up of six women who are mostly housewives. They want to deepen their knowledge of mathematics and mental calculations.
Volunteers conducted mathematics lessons that consisted of reviewing basic calculation (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Women were also able to learn how to use a calculator.
It is an opportunity for women to be more educated and to have more chances in developing their initiatives. With the help of the volunteers from VIN, the women get a chance to use their knowledge which raises the probability in business for a better future for the women in the community.
