Volunteer for Street Children in Nepal

Volunteer for Street Children in Nepal Project aims to give support, care and guidance to the most neglected section of children who have been rescued from the streets. Do you know that over 1200 children live on the streets of Kathmandu? They are neglected, abused and exploited. Many times these under-age children are seen picking garbage, washing dishes in hotels or working as a porter. You will also see them indulging in illegal activities such as sniffing narcotics. The question is, how do they end up on the streets? Some of them are left by their parents soon after their births and others run away from their homes due to extreme poverty. They are malnourished and suffer from various mental and physical trauma. Street children have now become the most neglected population segment of Nepal. There are a few organisation working towards rehabilitating these children however, it has not been enough.
WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE?
During your placement, you will be placed in one of the organization working towards protection of street children in Nepal. You will be working in the drop-in centres with these children who have been rescued from the streets. You will be teaching them about health and hygiene, nutrition, child rights and abuse. You can also organize fun recreational activities for the children. As a Volunteer for Street Children in Nepal you can take forth a need analysis focusing specific children or groups. Furthermore, you are welcome to conduct your research in due process.
