water research in nepal

Our international volunteers has been volunteering in VIN’s various projects such as Children’s Development, Youth’s Empowerment, Women’s Empowerment and water Research since last two and half months. One of the international Volunteer from Else has been testing drinking water for the 1st week of November 2013.

The chemicals (nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, fluoride & chloride) and thermo tolerant coliforms (bacteria) was examined. However, any kind of chemical was detected. She has been testing arsenic in the drinking water. She has accomplished the interview of 90 families of Taluwa VDC. She has covered all the 9 wards of taluwa VDC for chemical testing. She also researched on the source of water, water reservoir tank, pipe or tube used by the community people to have direct access on the drinking water and vessels and pot.

According to Els, though there is no source water pollution at present but people might face the problem in near future due to open source of water. The communities’ people are completely unaware about the risk caused due to source water pollution.

Els is focused to conduct awareness on source water pollution, its risk and prevention methods. She will be conducting workshop on “Water filter Manual” which can be prepared by the use of local resources, cheap and yet hygienic. She will also be educating the people on “Water Safety plan”. Furthermore, she will be preparing a map of sources of water in taluwa. It would be very helpful for the people to know about the various sources of drinking water in each ward of Taluwa VDC.

The contribution of a volunteer like Els has helped in the development of rural communities of Nepal. You can also help these neediest communities by delivering your skill and expertise. Will you not support VIN’s aim to develop the most marginalized and rural communities of Nepal? You can join our various projects such as water research, climate change, Agro farm, Agro forestry and environment initiative under VIN’s “Environment and Conservation Program”.
