On Friday, 20th March, 17 volunteers with VIN’s staff headed to spend their weekend to Nagarkot. It was two days one night tour to this village which also included hike and sightseeing. The volunteers also had chance to see Bhaktapur durbar square as bhaktapur is a mid point from Kathmandu to nagarkot.

Nagarkot is a village in the Kathmandu valley. It is 32 kilometers north east of Kathmandu. Nagarkot is famous for its Himalayan views, the Himalayan peaks at sunrise being particularly glorious. There are many ways to get in there. Tourist usually go there hiking but VIN volunteers were escorted by a bus to the hotel on the first day. On the second day, the volunteers hiked from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel. Hike to Dhulikhel is also called Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trekking Trail which is about 6 hours. The trail descends through rhododendron forest and small villages before arriving in Dhulikhel.

Volunteers explained that tours like this can be a nice break for volunteers. Volunteer’s day to day life in the community is very interesting and adventurous but these tours help them to explore more places of Kathmandu and Nepal. They recommend this tour to volunteers as they say that Nagarkot is somewhat rural resort village.

Volunteers Initiative Nepal invites you to join our travel tour and volunteering program and experience the adventurous tours and treks in Nepal.
