Trip to Bhaktapur and Nagarkot

Nagarkot Tour

Nagarkot Tour

This trip was a 2 two-daytrip from Kathmandu to Nagarkot. The first day was a visiting to Durbar square (Old palace and temples) with guide. This trip is a part of Travel tour and volunteering. The second days is hiking from uphill facing beautiful views of mountain to the down valley.

On Friday morning, all the volunteers were gathered at the VIN’s main office. With a small presentation of next two days, we were driven to Bhaktapur on a tourist bus which was approximately an hour ride. After arriving Bhaktapur we started the tour with a nice lunch at a rooftop restaurant with a pleasant paranoiac view of the square. We started to visit this special place with our guide and heshowedus the city and the monuments. This tour did not only allow us to visit the shrines and palaces but also introduced us to some brilliantly talented craftsman and artists; in particular potters and Thanka painters who allowed us to see their work and arts. This trip was culturally very interesting because inside the square local people were offering special homemade alcohol; ‘Aila’. I tried and the “aila” was really strong.

After threehours of sightseeing we headed to Nagarkot in the same bus. We drove through small roads in the hills and we arrived to a nice hotel on the top of the hills where we can see the great Himalayas and hills. The rooms had a small balcony where we can relax and enjoy the beautiful view in the evening. The night ends with a great dinner near a fireplace which helps to feel so warm and cozy.

Next day the hotel staff woke us up to enjoy the lovely sunrise but sometimes the fogs and mist can prevent you from this view. However the view of Himalayas and how the sky changes its color makes you feel heavenly. After the morning views the kitchen was ready to serve us warm tea and breakfast. The breakfast is typical. After the breakfast we got ready for the hike. The hike was around 4-5 hours down the hill; it’s pretty easy and had breathtaking views. We can say that the hike exposed the two parts of the hill; the first one is the walk in the woods and the second is the walk through the localcommunity, villages, people and small teashops. As we reach to the destination, the same bus came and picked us up from the stop. The bus drove us towards Kathmandu but before reaching to Kathmandu we made a short visit to nice restaurantsto have lunch.

The trip was naturally and culturally rich. The views were really beautiful and exotic. VIN organizes this trip on request of the volunteers. However, volunteers received for travel tour and volunteering will be going on this trip during their volunteering time. If you want to experience this trip then join our travel tour and volunteering program.
