Re-construction of earthquake resistant home
In 2018 -through volunteers initiative Nepal under the re-construction of earth quake resistant homes set up in select municipalities or villages, volunteer’s initiative Nepal, municipality office and its local people help to facilitate quality construction of disaster-resistant homes. The VIN also disseminate information on reducing disaster risks and building safer homes with environmentally friendly materials. Volunteer’s initiative Nepal uses geographic information system mapping to monitor the construction process.
Volunteers initiative Nepal works with local government, local political leaders, key social mobilizer from the communities, women and youth group to ensure that the families receive financial support to build, repair or maintain safe, adequate homes, based upon their level of financial need. Families typically contribute their own labor, savings and/or building materials. Volunteers initiative Nepal also provides construction material support sending international and local volunteers to build alongside families and communities.
The VIN supports initiatives aimed at increasing the supply of sustainable, low-cost building materials such as iron rod, cement, its need based material and rocks while creating livelihoods for those producing these materials. Volunteers initiative Nepal has been carrying out market surveys in its project areas to better understand the ability of households to access building materials, construction labor as well as housing finance.
